Gerald J. “Jerry” Stief, 86, of Galion passed away Monday, September 11, 2017 at Galion Pointe.

Born March 19, 1931 in Wyandot County, he was the son of George L. and Hilda M. (Brooks) Stief. Gerald married Darlene A. (Hanlon) Stief on April 27, 1957 and they enjoyed 60 years together.

He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Galion. Gerald served with The United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He retired in 1988 after a 30 year career from General Motors C.P.C. Ontario-Mansfield Plant where he worked in the Tool and Die Department and previously worked at Swan Rubber in Bucyrus. He was a member of the General Motors Local 549 Retiree Chapter and American Legion Scarbrough Post 243 in Galion. Gerald enjoyed traveling, camping and golfing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by children Ronald (Karen) Stief of Galion and Michael (Patti) Stief of Mansfield; grandchildren David (Kristi) Stief of Wellington, Denise (Dave) Bloom of Lancaster, Devan (Luke) Lewis of Batavia and Nick (Stefanie) Williams of Hendersonville, Tennessee and great grandchildren Emma, Lilly and Madelyne Stief, Matthew, Isaac and Gracelynne Bloom, Brantlee Lewis, Jaimison and Juleeus Williams.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by great granddaughter Julianna Bloom; brother Leroy Stief and sister Rita Book.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833 where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 14 with Rev. Joe Stafford officiating. Burial will follow at Blooming Grove Cemetery.

Full military honors will be conducted by The United States Air Force and the Galion Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.

Memorial contributions may be made to HomeCare Matters Hospice in care of the funeral home.
