George W. Jeffries, 77, of Big Prairie, OH returned to his heavenly father on October 5, 2020 at home with his loving wife by his side. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle with cancer and ultimately gave him peace.

George was born on December 3, 1941 in Mansfield, OH to the late William M. and Mary Jane (Sommers) Jeffries.  He graduated from Mansfield Senior High School, received his Bachelors in Sociology and Psychology at Bowling Green University; received his Masters at the University of Hawaii in Comparative Religion and Philosophy and a Master’s Degree in Criminology from Xavier University, Cincinnati, OH.

In his career, George worked as a Probation Officer in the juvenile court; Principal of Richland County New Hope School; a Professor and Director of General Studies at North Central Technical College. Then he taught at the University of New Hampshire and worked at the Center of Hope Area Agency.  Moved to Holmes County in 2006 to live among the Amish culture.

George is survived by his wife, Marilyn A. (Hamms) Jeffries whom he married on August 20, 1965; his daughter Gita S. (Jeffries) Jensen and his granddaughter, Emilee T. Jensen of New Hampshire as well as Joe and Gina Amareno, Cincinnati, OH; Mark and Melissa Hamms, Columbus, OH; Sally (Hamms) Monarchi, Mansfield, OH; Jerry and Delphia Mercurio, Cincinnati, OH; along with many nieces and nephew who loved him dearly.  Preceded in death by:  William and Mary Jane Jeffries, Rodney Hamms, Scott Hamms, and Nicholas Haring.

Special thank you to Life Care Hospice, nurses and staff for their excellent care during George’s illness.

Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at the Trinity Christian Fellowship Church in Millersburg, Oh at a later date.
