George L. Delgouffre, age 86, of Vernonview Ct., Mount Vernon, died Tuesday August 5, 2003, at the Knox Community Hospital. He was born in Mount Vernon, June 25, 1917, the son of Frederick and Emilia (Frere) Delgouffre and had been a lifetime resident of the community. He retired from Cooper Energy Services as a Standards Engineer after 32 years of service. Mr. Delgouffre served in the U S Army during WW II in the African, European and Asian Theaters and was awarded 5 campaign medals. He retired as a major after having served a total of 34 years in the Army and Army Reserves. He served on the Advisory Board of the Station Break, on the Council and as a Trustee of Area Agency on Aging and was a member of Grove Church of Christ, Mt. Zion Lodge #9 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, Aladdin Shrine, Baldwin Shrine Club and the Reserve Officers Association.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years Helen (Brooke) Delgouffre, a son George “Bud” Delgouffre of Ft. Mill, South Carolina, a daughter Connie Crawford of Tustin, California, 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Richard E. Delgouffre and a sister Georgette Gaumer.

A memorial service will be held 11 AM Saturday at the Grove Church of Christ and the family will receive friends following the service. The Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. Memorial contributions may ba made to the American Cancer Society, 1105 Mt. Vernon Ave., Marion.
