George H. Taylor I, age 79, of Marengo, Ohio died Friday, May 6, 2011 at the Med Central Hospital in Mansfield, Ohio.

On April 23, 1932 George was born in Claridon, Ohio, the son of John and Elizabeth (Boyer) Taylor. In 1953, George married Shirley Ann Pickens, the love of his life.

George entered into the United States Army and proudly served his country for two years. Upon leaving the Army, George spent his career working as an Engineer on the railroad and retired after nearly 28 years of service.

A lover of the outdoors, George could either be found hunting in his favorite woods in the fall, trapping in the winter or enjoying his horses. When George wasn’t enjoying the outdoors, you might find him cheering on his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes, the Celtics or any other number of sports teams.

George will be dearly missed by his beloved wife Shirley Ann (Pickens) Taylor; his two sons: Michael A. Taylor of Galion, OH and George H. Taylor II of Mt. Gilead; George is also the devoted grandfather of 9 and great grandfather of 11; two sisters: JoAnn House and Catherine Bridges both of Marion, OH.

George is preceded in death by two daughters: Brenda K. Taylor and Elizabeth A. (Frank A.) Clark; his parents and six siblings.

The Snyder Funeral Home of Mt. Gilead is honored to have been chosen to serve George’s family.
