George E. Fortune

George E. Fortune, age 71, of Galion, died Wednesday afternoon, August 24, 2011, at the MedCentral Hospital in Mansfield, following an extended illness.
On December 25, 1939, George was born in Coshocton County, the son of the late Ford and Goldie (Randles) Fortune. When he was in the 9th grade, he had to quit school to stay home and care for his younger siblings due to the death of his father.
For 37 years, George worked as a high lift driver with the American Lumber Company in Iberia.
With a love for racing, George enjoyed racing pure stock cars when he was younger and later enjoyed watching his boys race for many years.
A patient and kind hearted man, George will be missed by his three children: Randy Fortune, Scott Fortune, and Tammy (Richard) Guilliams, all of Coshocton; four grandchildren and one great grandchild; two brothers: Paul Fortune and Clarence (Sandy) Fortune; three sisters: Delores (Ken) Norman, Martha (Bob) Thomas, and Shirley (Jim) Sellers; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Johnny Fortune; a sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Ralph Bookman; and by two infant siblings.
Services for George will be held privately by his family, with Pastor Jim Luedeman officiating. Burial will be held in Rivercliff Cemetery.
