George Ball Sr.
March 25, 1928 ‒ December 20, 2020
JOHNSVILLE: George Ball Sr., age 92, passed from his earthly home into the presence of his Lord on Sunday, December 20, 2020. A devoted family man, he was surrounded by those who love and cherish him.
The son of Otis Clinton and Della Gertrude Ball, George was born in Lee County Virginia on March 25, 1928. He and his family moved to Central Ohio in 1953, and made this their home.
A selfless, generous, kind, and independent man he made serving others look easy. He loved his wife, his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and was the first one to volunteer to fill a need for them. He could often be found attending the sporting or musical events of his grandchildren, giving rides to his Amish friends, mowing a few yards, and working outside (his favorite place to be). A favorite past-time, he loved to fish. He was also a handy-man and would take on home projects himself. He mastered a garden, and planted flowers for all to enjoy. He took up bird watching from his seat on the porch swing, and could spot the wild animals from afar. He was a fabulous story-teller.
Stationed in Alaska, he served in the Army as cook during the Korean War. George retired in 1993 as a control builder from Shafer Valve. He was a member of North Woodbury Alliance Church.
He is survived by his wife Loraine (Meadows) Ball; his best buddy and K-9 friend Dash; their children Dreama Laibach of Mansfield, George Jr. (Becky) Ball of Fredericktown, Darrell (Donna) Ball of Mt. Gilead, Teresa (Tim) Rinehart of Galion; a very special granddaughter Georgette (Doyle) Prichard, and her two daughters: Hannah and Makaela Ball; grandchildren Michael, Michelle, Megan, Katie, Ashley, Brittany, Darren, Derrik, Stacey, Stephanie, Dawn, Nicole, and Whitney; and 31 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: William James Ball, Carl Clinton Ball and Chester Ball; a son-in-law Ed Laibach; and granddaughter Dana Ball.
The Ball family will receive friends Wednesday, December 23, 2020, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. Face coverings will be required and limited building occupancy may increase wait times. His family will be having a private funeral service that will be live-streamed on Facebook (Link to Funeral video) Thursday at 11 a.m. Military Honors will be performed by the Bellville American Legion Post #535. Pastor Corey Schnuerer will officiate. Burial will follow in Shauck Cemetery.
Memorial contributions to North Woodbury Alliance Church may be made at the funeral home.
