George Arthur Eckert

George Arthur Eckert, age 93, long time resident of Lexington passed away Monday, July 11, 2011 in Lexington Court Care Center following a long illness.
He was born December 21, 1917 on his family’s farm in Morrow County. The son of Jay and Hazel (Colson) Eckert, George was graduated from Lexington High School in 1935 and remained a lifelong Lexington resident.
On September 14, 1941 he married Mildred E. Haldeman who preceded him in death on October 31, 2005.
A very hard worker, George drove a school bus for Lexington for 25 years, a job he loved, all the while operating his own farm. He retired in 1983, and in 1984 he and Mildred began wintering in Frostproof, Florida, where they would play shuffleboard and ride their bicycles.
He was a member of Steam Corners United Methodist Church, Richland County Farm Bureau, and was a Troy Township Trustee (Morrow County)for four years.
A wonderful husband and dad, George is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law Larry A. and Vikki Eckert of Lexington, Gary D. and Darlene Eckert of Lexington, two grandchildren David Eckert and his wife Ellen of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, and Traci Lewin and her husband Eric of Spring Hill, Kansas, and great grandchildren Emily Stroble and Ryan Eckert.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years Mildred E. Eckert, on October 31, 2005 and a sister Jeanette Miller.
Friends may call Thursday, July 14, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where the funeral service will be held Friday at 1pm. The Rev. Millissa Hartson will officiate. Burial will follow in Lexington Cemetery.
Memorial contributions to Lexington Senior-Civic Center may be made at the funeral home.
