George A. Evans

George A. Evans, age 72 of Delaware, died Saturday morning at Delaware Court Health Care Center in Delaware.

He was born in Columbus on January 27, 1933 to the late Evans Isaac “Ike” and Bessie (Davies) Evans. He was a Naval Aviator Veteran serving 5 years active and 13 in the ready reserve. He was a graduate of University High School and attended Miami University and Ohio State University. He retired from Gates McDonald & Co. and had worked for E. I. Eavns Co. prior to that. Member of American Legion Post #115, BPO Elks #76, Past President of Delaware Lions Club, President of the Welsh Society of Central Ohio, President of Ohio Chapter RIMS (ASIM), Boy Scouts of America, Scout Master of Troop 633 in Worthington, and Delta Tau Delta at Miami University.

George was very regimented in his day to day life due to his naval service, everything had to be by the book, and had a great interest in military history. He also was very proud of his Welsh heritage and enjoyed working on his computer and taking pictures, especially of his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 50 years: Louise Winzenried Evans and they were married December 20, 1955; Sons: George A. Jr. of Stoutsville, David B. Evans of Delaware, John R. of Columbus and Evan Isaac (Lori) Evans of Radnor. 4 Grandsons: Adam, Brandon, Andrew and Cory. Brother: Dr. Thomas P. (Irveline) Evans of Upper Arlington; Sister: Esther J. Kelly of Dayton; Former Daughter-in-law: Tammie Evans. Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and very special friends.

Friends may call Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. with the Elk’s Memorial service at 4 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William Street (SR 36) Delaware where services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday with David James officiating. Military graveside services will follow at the Radnor Cemetery.
