Genevieve Marie Walters
April 04, 1915 ‒ March 17, 2014
LEXINGTON: “Fashion fades, only style remains the same.” –Coco Chanel
Genevieve Walters was timeless. She liked pearls and matching her jewelry to her outfits; she liked statement hats and the color red. She would even wear pearls to do housework! Far from being haughty, Genevieve believed in putting her best foot forward all the time.
Genevieve Marie Walters passed away Monday evening March 17, 2014 in her Mansfield home in Wedgewood Estates. She was 98.
She was born April 4, 1915 in Crawford County to parents Otmer C. & Laura B. (Faber) Hill. She was a rose among thorns (the only girl among 5 boys) and when her mother passed away in 1923, she took the role as “ruler of the roost” and helped to raise her brothers. Genevieve was graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1935, and later married Richard J. Walters on May 7, 1955. She was a homemaker for most of her life and dearly loved her family.
Genevieve moved back to the Mansfield area from Dearborn, MI in 1996 and in spare time she enjoyed tending to her yard and garden. In younger years, she loved to travel with her husband and they went just about everywhere—Spain, Italy, London, Hawaii, the Bahamas, and Alaska just to name a few.
She was a faithful member of the First Church of God on Park Avenue West in Mansfield. Genevieve was also a board member of the AARP Group at First Presbyterian in Mansfield and regularly attended activities at the Lexington Senior-Civic Center.
She is survived by three step-children: Richard J. Walters of Toronto, Canada, Michael D. & Sue Walters of Lansing, MI, and Elaine K. Raymo of Dearborn, MI; a brother Claudie Hill of Mansfield; sister-in-law Glenna Hill of Mansfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Genevieve was preceded in death by her loving husband Richard J. Walters in 1975; brothers A.E. Hill, F. Siebert Hill, Rupert Hill and half-brother George Hill.
Her family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday March 20, 2014 at Snyder Funeral Homes, 2553 Lexington Avenue in Mansfield where a funeral service celebrating her life will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 21. Pastor Jeff Gray will officiate and burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.
