Geneva Smith, age 80, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at her home in Delaware.
She was born on October, 18, 1931 in Delaware, Ohio, to the late Walter and Sophia Evans.Retired from the Scioto Village School for Girls, Geneva was a long-time resident of Delaware, where many of her extended family members still reside. In particular, she was very close to the Wilson family and enjoyed spending much of her time with them.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law Norma Harris of Delaware, OH; grandchildren Jennifer Evans of Columbus, OH, Veronica (Bradley) Gunnett of Marion, OH, and Rebecca Evans of Westerville, OH. Affectionately known as “Grandma DB”, she is also survived by great-grandchildren Robert and Dominique Baccus, Aarin and Anthony Hitchens, San Juan and Lucia Avina, and DezaraeGunnett. She was also the great-great-grandmother of Jarreau Hitchens and JazziannaBaccus.
In addition to her parents, Geneva was preceded in death by her husband Grover “Smitty” Smith; as well as her son, Walter R. Evans.
The family will receive friends from 4-6PM at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William Street, Delaware on Wednesday, February 8, 2012, with a memorial service following immediately thereafter, officiated by Deacon Franklin D. Moore of the Second Baptist Church. Private interment will take palce at a later date.
