Geneva P. Gardner

January 10, 1913 ‒ November 12, 2014

Bellville, Ohio

DUBLIN: Geneva P. Gardner, age 101, of Dublin and formerly of Bellville passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2014 in Friendship Village of Dublin.

She was born January 10, 1913 in Bellville, the daughter of Harley and Nina (Clever) Oyster and was graduated from Bellville High School in 1931.

On September 4, 1937 she married Jess W. Gardner, a young man from Chesterville, in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Bellville.  His work as an aviation mechanical specialist took the couple to many large cities, living in Chicago, Los Angeles, and White Plains, New York. The couple shared a beautiful romance, celebrating anniversaries and birthdays in a big way.  They shared a particularly memorable trip overseas aboard the Queen Elizabeth 2 and took the Concorde back to the States.  Geneva and Jess also enjoyed trips to Israel, the UK, Ireland and Australia.

Geneva and Jess lived 17 years in Lake Worth, Florida, moving back to Ohio in 1999 to be closer to their families.  She was a member of the Good Shepherd Methodist Church in Florida and the Methodist Church in Dublin.

She was a member of Eastern Star and Katherine Club, which supports abused children.

Geneva would attribute her longevity to alternative medicine, exercise and a balanced diet, with dark chocolate thrown in because it was good for the heart.  Active, she walked and did water aerobics daily.  She was a musician, playing the organ, and loved card games including canasta and euchre.  Above all this, she loved her family and remained very close with her nieces and nephews.

She is survived by two sisters-in-law: Lois Oyster and Gladys Oyster both of Bellville, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews and many extended family members.

In addition to her husband, Geneva was preceded in death by brothers and sisters-in-law Carroll, Clarence, Ernest and Estella, John and Alberta, and Leo and Melissa Oyster and a sister and brother-in-law Erma and Russel Kochheiser.

A chapel service will be held Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 11 am in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home.  The Rev. Doug Pretorius will officiate.  Her private interment will be in Bellville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
