Geneva Chapman, age 89 of Sunbury, died Thursday afternoon March 3, 2011 at Country View of Sunbury.
She was born on January 26, 1922 in Flat Gap, Ky. to the late Powell and Ollie (Murry) Sparks. She had lived in the Olive Green area since 1944 coming from Flat Gap. Retired from the Filling Room at Nestles Company in Sunbury with 30+ years of service.
Geneva loved time spent with her family, vegetable and flower gardening, cooking, baking, camping and fishing. A devoted wife and mother she was described as a simple person. Weekends at Lake Erie camping and boating was time cherished with her family and she enjoyed this up until the last couple of years. Another favorite pastime for Geneva was salmon fishing on the Betsy River in Michigan a family tradition.
Survived by sons: Charles B. “Barney” (Linda) Chapman Jr. of Logan, Bill (Judy) Chapman of Sunbury, Tom (Jane) Chapman of Marysville; step-daughter: Arlene Menkel of Seattle, WA,; 17 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild; sisters: Gusta Sparks, Flora Davis both of Sunbury.
Preceded in death by her husband: Charles B. Chapman on March 5, 1994 and they were married November 26, 1945, Step-daughters: Joyce Nutter, Noreen McMahon; brothers: Roy, Hollie “Hod”, Selcie, & Richard Sparks; sisters: Inis Corwin, Ival Conley
Friends may call Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home where services will be held 11 a.m. Monday with Pastor Ken Mossor officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunbury Memorial Park
