Garnelle Lloyd, age 89 of Delaware and formerly of Ashley went to be with the Lord peacefully Thursday, November 03, 2011 while surrounded by her family at the Cherith Care Center in Willow Brook Christian Village.
She was born on March 20, 1922 in Parma, Missouri to the late Leo and Lola (Loyd) King. Raised in Parma, she met her husband of 70 years, Wayne G. Lloyd, while in college in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. They were married on February 16, 1941 and moved to the Marengo area, where Garnelle worked for Dr. Devol while Wayne was in the service. They then made their home in Ashley and opened the Lloyd Furniture Store. Together, they raised their family and looked after each other’s needs in Ashley over the next 40 years.
Garnelle served as the organist at the Ashley Methodist Church for several years and worked as the Ashley School secretary, retiring in 1986. She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary and baked many excellent pies for the Corn Show.
In addition to being a skilled homemaker and wife, she was a devoted mother. She loved and served her family and others tirelessly and was a most compassionate person. After retirement she and Wayne moved to Delaware in 1990, where they attended Delaware Bible Church and enjoyed going to garage sales. Since 2000 they have been residents of Willow Brook Christian Village.
She was an active volunteer for Grady Hospital and the Central Ohio Mental Health Center. Always concerned about others, she was soft spoken and quiet in nature. Garnelle will be remembered for her warm genuine smile, love of family, and deep abiding faith.
In addition to her beloved husband Wayne she is survived by children: Jim (Becky) Lloyd, Judy (Jerry) Gibson, Louise (Bob) Henry, Donna Shaw, Carol Holdren, daughter-in-law: Sharon Mathews, 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by son Lee Mathews, son-in-law Len Shaw, and brother Lloyd King.
Friends may call Wednesday 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St., Delaware. Funeral services will be held at10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Delaware Bible Church, 45 Belle Ave., Delaware. Burial will follow in Ashley Union Cemetery.
