Fredrick Ray Montgomery, age 64, of Township Rd. 220, Marengo, passed away at his home on Saturday, July 7, 2012.

He was born on August 30, 1947 in Mount Vernon to Virgil and Norma Jean (Small) Montgomery. Fred enjoyed going to Quarter Horse Shows with his family. He was a good mechanic and worked on cars. He loved living on his farm and being in the country. Fred was a veteran serving in the United States Army during the Vietnam War where he received a Purple Heart. He was very approachable and never met a stranger.

He is survived by his wife, of over 32 years, Roberta (Levering) Montgomery; his daughter Marilee Montgomery of Marengo; his son Mike Montgomery of Marengo; his mother Norma Jean Montgomery of Mount Vernon; two brothers, Ed (Patricia) Montgomery of Washington, Charlie Montgomery of Indiana; and five sisters, Suzanne (John) Steveson of Georgia, Kathleen Albert of Columbus, Margaret (Rick) Mathis of Florida, Debbie (Rick) Shultz of Mount Vernon, and Sharon (Chuck) Blubaugh of Mount Vernon.

Fred was preceded in death by his father Virgil Montgomery and two brothers Bill and Frank Montgomery.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Saturday beginning at 11AM at the South Vernon United Methodist Church with Rev. Bob Alexander officiating.
