Frederick H. Mowen, age 75, of Mount Vernon went home to be with his Lord on Sunday evening, August 24, 2014 at Mount Carmel Saint Ann’s Hospital. He was born on May 26, 1939 in Dayton, son of the late Frederick and Nancy (Hampton) Mowen.
Fred proudly served his country in the Army and was a member of the American Legion. He was also a member of Faith Baptist Church in Mount Vernon. Fred was a retired Foreman for TRW and after retirement worked part time at Lowes. He was also a Poll worker for the Board of Elections and a part time firefighter for Marion Township. He was a fan of the Cincinnati Bengals and enjoyed fishing, playing cards and golfing with friends. Fred’s greatest passion was spending time with his grandkids and watching their sporting events.
In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by a daughter, Crystal; step father, Earnest Baird; brother, Charles; and a sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Harry McIntire.
Fred is survived by his loving wife, Pat (Brockmeyer) Mowen; son, David (Teresa) Mowen of Pickerington; daughter, Angel (Thomas) Atchison of Westerville; grandchildren, Ashley, Ross, and Aaron; brother, Michael; sisters, Nancy (Jerry), Karen, Marilyn (Hank), and Debbie (Reb); and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Rd., with Military Honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council following the visitation.
A celebration of life service will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at the Faith Baptist Church, 8764 Martinsburg Rd, Mount Vernon with Pastor Doug Forsythe officiating.
