MANSFIELD: Franz Echelle, 87, of Mansfield, died Tuesday evening December 16, 2003 at his home following a long illness.

Franz was born September 18, 1916 in Karlsdorf, Yugoslavia, to Josef and Maria (Bauer) Echelle, lived and worked in Salzburg, Austria before coming to the United States in 1952.

He was employed by The Tappan Company, retiring in 1979, and was a member of The Tappan Century Club.

A member of St. Peters Catholic Church, and Liederkranz, he enjoyed gardening, landscaping and was a hard worker no matter what project he undertook.

Franz was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his wife Theresia (Jegl) Echelle whom he married October 15, 1938; his son and daughter-in-law Josef P. and Sandi Echelle of New Jersey; his daughter Annemarie Echelle of Mansfield; his daughter and son-in-law Liselotte and Wayne Burdette of Westerville; grandchildren and their spouses Leah and James Waltz of New York, New York, Carrie and Gary Bristow of Evergreen, Colorado, Alisa Burdette and Kristi Burdette both of Westerville; great grandchildren Brady, Halle and Hope Bristow.

He was preceded in death by three sisters Katharina Buerg, Anna Sloboda and Magdalena Echelle.

Friends may call Friday, December 19, 2003 from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday at 1 pm in St. Peter’s Catholic Church, celebrated by Father Michael Zacharias. Burial will follow in Lexington Cemetery.

Memorial contributions to the Ohio Parkinson Foundation, American Cancer Society or Monsignor Dunn Scholarship Fund may be made at the funeral home.
