Frank A. Maraffa, 82, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, September 23, 2009 at his home in Mount Vernon, OH.
At his side was his wife of 60 years, Mary (Serafini) whom he married on July 9, 1949. Frank was born on December 17, 1926 in Columbus, OH and grew up in the neighborhood now known as Italian Village. He was the son of Sebastian and Carmella (Donato) Maraffa, immigrants from Italy.

Their 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren were a source of special joy and pride. His children and grandchildren will take with them his love and attention and the many ways in which he helped them throughout their lives.
He graduated from Columbus Central High School and was a Veteran of World War II. Frank earned his Bachelors and Masters degrees from The Ohio State University in Education. He began his career as an elementary school teacher in Lorain, OH in 1949, but returned to Columbus where he started as a teacher at Olentangy Elementary School. Frank was also an elementary school principal at First Avenue, Eleventh Avenue, and Devonshire. He moved into administration and served as Assistant Superintendent of Columbus Public Schools until his retirement in 1985. He then worked for 20 years as a Consultant for the Catholic Conference of Ohio, specializing in the administration of federal programs. He was the exhibit manager for their conventions and for the conventions of Title 1 Federal and State Programs. He will be remembered as a valued colleague and friend.
While Frank enjoyed golf, playing cards with his friends, and working on the house and yard, above all he valued his family.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters. A sister survives as do many nieces and nephews.
A private service will precede his burial at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens. There will be no calling hours.
