Francis R. LeFurjah, 94, of the Country Club Retirement Campus of Mount Vernon, died Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at Knox Community Hospital after a brief illness. He was born May 10, 1917, in Monett, Missouri, son of the late Charles F. LeFurjah, a former mayor of Sarcoxie, Mo., and Minnie Mae (Richards).

Francis was an Army Air Corp Veteran of WWII serving in the European Theatre as part of the Omaha Beach D-Day+2 invasion and the liberation of Paris. He worked nearly five decades for the Boeing Corporation in Seattle, Washington and elsewhere, contributing to projects such as the Apollo Space Program and the original Boeing 747 development.

Francis was a member of Gay Street United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon, the Masonic Lodge in Edmonds, Washington, the Valley of Wichita and the Orient of Kansas. He was an avid golfer and tennis player, providing tennis instruction into his late 80s.

Francis is survived by his nieces and nephews, Peggy L. (Bill) Batz of Cincinnati, Paula M. (Sam) Barone of Mount Vernon, and Kathleen Siegel of Toledo, as well as two great nieces and three great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Mary Louise (LeFurjah) Siegel, who died in 1988.

The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 East High Street, Mount Vernon, Ohio. The Rev. Denise L. Marikis will be officiating. Burial will follow in Mound View Cemetery with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
