Frances Race

May 28, 1920 ‒ June 17, 2016

Mansfield, Ohio

MANSFIELD: Frances Race, age 96, peacefully passed away on Friday, June 17, 2016 in the Mansfield home of her granddaughter Joy who gave her such wonderful care. She was surrounded by family.

Frances was born May 28, 1920 to parents Maurice & Maude Simpson in Mansfield. Her loving husband Robert M. Race passed away in 1977. They are now together again.

Frances worked as a meat cutter for Kroger for many years until she retired in 1985.

In spare time she enjoyed reading and working on crossword puzzles and word searches. She was a good cook and loved making pancakes and “grammy syrup” with her great grandson Nik and her neighbor. Frances also made the best pies with ingredients fresh from her neighbor’s garden.

She dearly loved her granddaughters and great grandchildren. Her family will miss her feisty personality and reassuring her that, yes, her hair looked nice on trips to the grocery store.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Robert “Bob” & Reva Race of Mansfield; two granddaughters Joy Race of Mansfield and Jaime Ison (Major Jarrod Ison, U.S. Army) of El Paso, TX; four great grandchildren Ashley Vaughn, Nikolaus Vaughn, Robert Michael Ison, and Lyndsey Ison; sister Georgianna Johnson of Mansfield; brother Walter (Donna) Simpson of Port Richie, FL; nieces and nephews: Sandy (Ed) Keller, Walter David (Irene) Johnson, John (Rebecca) Johnson, and Cindy Stevens; along with numerous extended family members.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her  husband.

Her family will receive friends 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2016 in the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where a funeral service celebrating her life will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday. Pastor Mike Wilson will officiate and burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.

Contributions in her memory to American Macular Degeneration Foundation, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, or American Cancer Society may be made at the funeral home.
