Floyd Glenn Kemp, 89, of Galion passed away Friday, September 11, 2015 at Country Meadow Care Center in Bellville.

Born October 24, 1925 in Monroe County, Ohio, he was the son of George Washington Kemp and Marie (Perkins) Kemp Peoples. He married Emma L. (Amadio) Kemp on July 20, 1950 and they enjoyed 61 years together until her passing on December 18, 2011.

He was a graduate of Woodsfield High School in Monroe County and was an engineer for Conrail and CSX Railroads. Floyd was handy with cars, enjoyed helping neighbors and was fond of the Amish Community. He was a short wave radio enthusiast and owned his own airplane. In his retirement he and Emma enjoyed traveling in their RV, especially to Texas, Florida and Mexico.

He is survived by daughter Tara Lynn Mann of Lexington and son-in-law John Floyd (Karen) Norris of Gambier; grandchildren Lisa Ann (Jeff Hart) Norris, Carrie Marie (Rodney) Weikel, Steven Michael(Ashley) Norris, Tina Rae Boyle and Heather Sue Mann; great-grandchildren Ella, Trevor, Tyler, Radley, Bayoni, Bonnie, Makayla, Logan, Micah, Kayden, and Tyler; nephews Larry Kemp, Glenn Hartle, Dale Hartle and Gene Taylor; nieces Jane Haas, Joyce Shearer and Tracie Pieczynski and sister-in-law Ella Mae Kemp of Galion.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Emma L. Kemp; daughter Rita M. Norris; sister Viola Hartle and brothers Ralph Kemp and Lewis Kemp.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833 where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 17 with Pastor Dale E. Hilkert officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Galion.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Vigil Volunteer Program at Hospice of North Central Ohio in care of the funeral home.

  • Dear Carrie & Family. I am so sorry about the loss of your Grandpa. As we well know he is in Heaven with his Lord, his Daughter/ Your Mom & I bet they all had a wonderful Reunion up there. Some day we will be having a reunion with all of them to. For now let’s pray for our Reunion next year. We were unable to have one this year. I am planning on having one in 2016. I love you.

    Although I only knew you a few weeks….I was privileged to be one of your care givers. My prayers to the whole family. Although I didn’t know you well at all, you truly touched my life. I’m sad you are gone, but thankful you have a pain free life with God. Thank you for making such an impact on my life. They say not to get attached to residents. But it’s hard not to when I saw you every day and provided care. God Bless!
