Florence West Ulrey, 107, of Mount Gilead, Ohio died Wednesday, June 16, 2004 in the Chestnut House in Newark.

She was born in Letart Falls, Ohio on March 15, 1897, the daughter of the late Walter and Ella Norris Sayre. She moved here in 1918 from West Virginia. She taught school in the former Black Hawk School in Morrow County and helped operate a family farm until retiring. Florence has been a member of the Chester Baptist Church since 1919 where she taught Sunday School for many years and was active in the Ladies Missionary.

She is survived by a son Earl (Margaret) West of Marengo, Ohio; two daughters Juanita (William) Powers of Newark, Ohio and Crystal (Roy) Cook of Newark, Ohio; a step-son Don (Jane) Ulrey of Cardington, Ohio; three grandchildren; ten step-grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; 17 step-great grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren; and three step-great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands Verner E. West, whom she married on May 28, 1919, who died on Dec. 22, 1937 and Glen Ulrey, whom she married June 26, 1964, who died on June 22, 1976. A step-daughter Bertha Ulrey Linder, a step-grandson Stanley Linder, three brothers and six sisters also preceded her in death.

The Rev. William Powers and John Cook will conduct funeral services on Saturday, June 19, 2004 at 11 a.m. in the Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Gilead. Friends may call one-hour prior to the services. Burial will follow in Fulton Cemetery.
