Florence K. Simmons, age 96, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at the Mount Vernon Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Chesterville, Ohio on November 1, 1921 to the late Glenn and Bessie (Haines) Kempton.

Florence graduated from Chesterville High School and was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church for over 70 years. She was also a member of the Wayne Grange for 81 years, Golden Times Club, and Washington Club.  Florence enjoyed gardening, but most of all she loved being around her family and grandchildren.

She is survived by her 2 sons, Dean (Bonnie) Simmons, Donald (Roberta) Simmons; grandchildren, Buffie (Brian) Clippinger, Rob (Angie) Simmons, JoLee (Jason) Carrier; and 9 great-grandchildren; a sister, Jean Householder; several nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, Florence is preceded in death by her husband, Chester Simmons; grandson, David Simmons, sisters, Betty Winand, Georgia Wandle, Doris Pocock; and a brother, Russell Kempton.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2018 from 11 am until the time of the funeral service at 1 pm at the Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown; 33 E. College St. Fredericktown, Ohio 43019 with Pastor Tadd Sponseller officiating. Burial will take place in Maple Grove Cemetery in Chesterville, Ohio.

  • My dear friends, I am so sorry to hear of Florence’s passing. She was a fine lady and such a nice friend to my mom, Millie, while they were at Autumn Rehab and Living Center together. I know she loved flowers, watching the birds, and visits from her family. May she be at peace. Please accept our deepest condolences from me and my family.
