Fay L. Alkire, 86, of 23 Locust Street, Crestline, died Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at home.

Born July 3, 1920 in Marion Co., he was the son of the late Samuel Howard Alkire and Zoe DeFrance Alkire. He was preceded in death on Feb. 23, 2000 by his wife, LaFaun M. “Bonnie” Sheaks Alkire whom he married on May 21, 1943.

He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and retired from General Motors in 1985 where he was a machinist.

He is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, Eddie Alkire of Columbus, Billy and Pam Alkire of Crestline and Mark Alkire of Galion; eight daughters and two sons-in-law, Carolyn Moritz of Shelby, Marilyn Williams of Mansfield, Wynona Alkire of Crestline, Jill and Frank Scully of Galion, Faith and Frank Monastiro of Crestline, Helen Rush of Crestline, Jenny Smith of Lubbock, Texas and Connie Hadley of Galion; 36 grandchildren; many great grandchildren and two sisters, Jean Saylor of Galion and Eileen Shewmaker of Marion.

He was preceded in death by a brother Lewis Alkire; two daughters, Georgia “Jodi” Welling and Cherilyn Duron; two grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 22, 2007 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2007 with Rev. Phil Puckett officiating. Burial will be in Iberia Cemetery.

Military graveside services will be conducted by the U.S. Army and Galion/Crestline area veteranÂ’s organizations.
