LEXINGTON: Evelyn (Saal) Montanya, age 80, of Lexington passed away Saturday morning, May 21, 2011 in Lexington Court Care Center surrounded by her loving children following a year and a half long battle with cancer.

Born Evelyn Jane Saal on September 2, 1930 in Wooster, she was the only daughter of the late Wallace R. and Nettie Marie (McVay) Saal. Evelyn graduated from Wooster High School in 1948 where she was a cheerleader, encouraging her Wooster Generals.

Evelyn came to Richland County in 1963 with her husband seeking employment. Through the years she worked at various jobs, most recently she worked for 20th Century Printing for 16 years and also at Marco Photo before her retirement in 1993.

She was an active member of Lexington Grace Brethren Church where she served as a greeter and was a member of the Women’s Ministry and Youth Mininstry. Evelyn was also on the school board for Grace Christian School and provided the Daily Bread pamphlets for guests at the church.

Evelyn also volunteered her time at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital at the information desk, and was active in Silver Sneakers, an aerobics group at the YMCA and Friendly House.

A talented musician, Evelyn loved music and “tickling the ivories.” She also enjoyed keeping her mind sharp with puzzles and reading.

She is survived by her five adoring children Gregory and Catherine Montanya of Lexington, Steven Montanya of Wooster, Laura and Dwayne Robinett of Lucas, David Montanya and Rhonda of Butler, and Lynn Swartz of Lexington; six grandchildren Matthew, Amy, Billy, Benji, Nicholas, and Kaitlyn; five step grandchildren Ashley, Jarrod, Brittany, Joe and Bethany; seven great grandchildren Felicia, Owen, Emariya, Chase, Darreyane, Rayden and Bailey; a great great granddaughter Naleiah; and a sister-in-law Joanne Montanya of Willoughby Hills. Also surviving are her Kissing Kousins Bobbie and Linda, her best friend Marian Humphrey, along with numerous extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Richard H. Montanya, and a special cousin Robbie.

Friends may call Tuesday, May 24, 2011 from 4-8 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where the funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 am. A graveside service will follow in Wooster Cemetery at 2 pm. Pastor Jason Carmean will officiate.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions to Lexington Grace Brethren Church or Harbor Light Hospice may be made through the funeral home.
