Evelyn R. Miller, age 85 of Delaware, OH passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, April 22, 2014 in the Cherith unit of Willow Brook Christian Village. She was born on May 29, 1928 in Zanesville, OH to the late Lane and Bernice (Tompkins) Dike.
After graduating from Lash High School in Zanesville she was recruited to work for the First Trust and Savings Bank because of her excellent shorthand and typing skills and eventually became the private secretary to the president. She assisted and used her secretarial and bookkeeping skills, as well as her trusted typewriter when she and Virgil began Miller Component Sales, Inc. in 1970. She served as company secretary and treasurer for 28 years.
She was passionate about and excellent at crocheting and also enjoyed reading, bowling, and being a passenger while Virgil flew his plane. She and Virgil traveled extensively and highlights were trips to Alaska, Hawaii, and the Holy Land. One of her most cherished memories was when she and her husband had the rare opportunity to have a private visit with former President Ronald Reagan in 1997. Evelyn and Virgil lived out their strong Christian faith by serving faithfully in their local churches in many ways as well as being active participants, with Virgil serving as board member of Ravi Zacharias Ministries International. But her greatest joy was her family, of whom she was most proud.
Those left to cherish her memory include her beloved husband Virgil, son Roger (Beth) Miller of Naples, FL, daughter Vickie (Marv) Shaffer of Galena, OH, 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and sister Doris Talbot of Springfield, OH.
