MANSFIELD: Evelyn C. Schmidt, 83, of formerly West Cook Road, Mansfield, died Tuesday morning November 18, 2003, in Lexington Court Care Center, following a long illness.
She was born April 11, 1920 in Hardin County to Elza and Jessie (Hammitt) Vermillion, was graduated from Hardin County High School, and attended Mansfield Business College.
Evelyn was a US Navy veteran of WWII, serving with the Navy Waves.
A homemaker, Mrs. Schmidt lived in Mansfield most of her life, and spent several years as a Girl Scout troop leader.
An avid reader, Evelyn kept her mind sharp with crossword puzzles, and enjoyed collecting crystal, china and antiques. Above all else, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law Karen A. and Philip Grant of Lexington and Cathy L. and Byron Bogner of Mansfield; four grandchildren Tiffany Grant, Kyle Grant, Kristen Bogner and Taylor Bogner; and a sister-in-law Dorothy Wornstaff of Hilliard.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles E. Schmidt on December 2, 1994, and by two brothers Earl and Chalmer Vermillion.
The family will receive friends Thursday, November 20, 2003 from 5-8 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where the funeral service will be held Friday at 10:30 am. Pastor T. J. Waters will officiate. Burial will follow in Lexington Cemetery.
Memorial contributions to The North Central Ohio Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association may be made at the funeral home.
