Evelyn A. (Sterritt) Taylor, 81, of Lucas and formerly of Mount Gilead, died Friday December 14, 2007 at MedCentral Hospital in Mansfield.
Born in Marengo, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Floyd Westbrook and Mabel (Davis) Sterritt.
Evelyn married James E. Taylor, on February 29, 1947, in New York City. He preceded her in death on February 6, 1965.
While in Mount Gilead she worked for the Mount Gilead elementary school as the secretary to the principal. In 1962, her family moved to Lucas where they acquired the local grocery. Following her husband’s death in 1965, she continued to operate Taylor’s Market. In 1981, she sold her business and went to work for her son, Jack, at Taylor’s Super Valu, Inc. in Fredericktown, Ohio.
She was dearly loved by her family and will be missed by her two sons: James L. (Myrna) Taylor of Cincinnati and Jack E. (Debbie) Taylor of Apple Valley; and five grandchildren: Ryan (Lauren) Taylor of Charlotte, NC and Neil Taylor of Chicago, IL, Kim (Joe) Raker of Sunbury, Chad Taylor of Apple Valley and Todd Taylor of Traverse City, MI; and four great grandchildren: Lincoln and Aly Raker, and Luke and Kate Taylor.
Evelyn was also preceded in death by her three brothers: Keith, William, and Jerry Sterritt and her sister Ellen Sterritt Smith.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, December 17, 2007, at 12:00 noon at Rivercliff Cemetery in Mount Gilead with Pastor Joe Blevins officiating.
