MANSFIELD~ Evalyn A. Wiseman, age 94, formerly of Larchwood Road, Mansfield, passed away Saturday evening November 1, 2008 in MedCentral Mansfield Hospital.

She was born January 30, 1914 in Delaware County to Thomas O. and Eva R. (Payne) Wiseman, and moved to Johnsville at a young age. She was graduated from Johnsville High School in 1931.

Miss Wiseman earned her Bachelor’s of Arts degree from Otterbein College in 1935. She also attended Ohio University and studied abroad at University of the Americas in Mexico City. Evalyn earned her Master’s of Arts from The Ohio State University in 1945.

Evalyn was a student and teacher of languages. As a profession she taught Latin and Spanish, mostly on the high school level, and retired in 1976 with 40 years of service to the Madison Local School District.

She was a member of the Delta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International; Mansfield Federation of Women, the American Association of University Women; and the Johnsville Grace United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her cherished friends and caregivers Linda & Rod McElfresh of Mansfield; cousins Joyce & Loren Hiser of Marion; and dear friends Shirley Bender of Mansfield and Dr. Tim Wynn of Columbus.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 2 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. The Rev. John Partridge will officiate. Burial will follow in Rivercliff Cemetery, Mount Gilead. Friends may call at the funeral home, from 1 p.m. until time of the funeral service.
