Evah Belle Hewett, 94, of Ashley died Wednesday afternoon at Bennington Glen Nursing Home. She was born April 18, 1914 in Delaware County to Raymond Albert and Bessie Jane (Gale) Ward. She was a member of the Stantontown Advent Christian Church where she was a Sunday School and Bible School teacher, treasurer, secretary, and active in the Stantontown Women’s Home and Foreign Mission. She was active in the Ashley American Legion Auxillary and served as chaplain. She loved to sing and sang with her brother and sisters for many years. She also participated in the Ashley Apple Butter Festival. She set an example for her children and grandchildren sharing the Love of God and song. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Dwight Harold; son, Raymond Dean (Velma Lee) of Croton; daughter, Jane Ellen Rutan of Ashley; 9 grandchildren, Harold Gene Hewett, Deana Lee (Jeff) Schadwick, Glenda Sue (Mike) Feasel, Peggy Lynn Hewett, Cathy (Kerry) Stewart, Nancy (Jon) Swafford, Roger (Kelly) Hewett, Neil Dexter Rutan, and Nathaniel Daniel (Gerri) Rutan; 20 grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter; sister, Lois Martin of Delaware; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Harold Eugene, great granddaughter Miranda, son-in-law Neil Duane Rutan, sister Dorothy Ellen McGrath, and a brother Kenneth Eugene Ward. The family will receive friends today (Friday March 6th) from 3 – 7 pm at the Rodman Neeper Funeral Home, 307 E. High Street, Ashley and where funeral services will be held on Saturday March 7th at 2:00 pm with Rev. Rob Musick officiating. Burial will follow in Ashley Union Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Ohio Advent Christian Campground.
