Eva (Antol) Zanotto

February 05, 1933 ‒ July 10, 2015

Sunbury, Ohio
Formerly of Columbus, Ohio

Eva (Antal) Zanotto, age 82, of Sunbury and formerly of Columbus died early Friday morning, July 10, 2015 at St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville.

She was born on February 5, 1933 in Ujpest, Hungary the daughter of the late Bela and Rozalia (Fulop) Antal.

On July 3, 1954 she married Janos in Hungary.  Together they endured war and death during the 1956 revolution in Hungary, escaping from the Iron Curtain in 1968 with their son John (Janos).  Their daughter Eva Julian Zanotto Kraft was born in the United States.  Eva and Janos were married for 44 years before his passing on March 14, 1999 just nine months after losing their daughter.

Eva worked tirelessly as a housekeeper, serving several prominent Columbus families.

Eva will be remembered for her love of cooking and was never happier than when she was feeding her family.  She prepared many Hungarian dishes and mastered items outside her area of expertise; egg rolls were just one example.  She also loved her gardens. Up until 5 years ago she could be found outside with a hoe and a shovel working away.  Eva loved going to the casino to play the slots and had an uncanny ability to turn a $1 or $5 scratch off lottery ticket into extra cash.  More recently, on a family trip, she took her success with games of luck to Magic Mountain where she preceded to win in upwards of 1600 tickets.  She used those tickets to purchase all kinds of swag, including a large stuffed Sock Monkey for her great granddaughter, Isabella and even convinced the gentleman working the counter to provide her with a free hat.

As much as the above helped define who Eva was, she loved talking with her family back home and visiting until her health declined.  Even then she enjoyed talking with family and friends back in Hungary every few days.

Her great granddaughter Isabella held a special place in her heart and together they could be found playing dress up, blowing bubbles on the back porch, or riding her chair lift up and down the steps together.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, John and his wife Catrina Zanotto of Sunbury; grandchildren, Samantha Marie Oxenham, Nickol Elizabeth Zanotto, Janos Bela Zanotto, and McKenzie Ann Kraft; great granddaughter Isabella Marie Oxenham; brothers, Sandor Fulop of Hungary; Bela and his wife Deloris Kenessey of Georgia; sister, Agnes and her husband Eric Schrader of Georgia; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews in here and in Hungary.
