Eugenia L. “Genia” Welsh, age 80, of Lower Fredericktown Amity Rd., Mount Vernon, died May 7, 2003, at the Knox Community Hospital. She was born August 5, 1922, in Galax, Virginia, the daughter of the late William and Ella (Blevins) Hampton, and had been a Knox County Resident for nearly 75 years. During World War II she was employed by Shalimar Corp. and as a machinist by The Cooper Bessemer Corp in Mount Vernon. Mrs. Welsh had served as a winning coach of the Amity Elementary School Jr. Olympics Team and enjoyed hunting, trapping, gardening, woodcarving, oil painting and reading.

Mrs. Welsh is survived by 2 daughters Lynn (Larry) Brennstuhl of Perrysville, Ohio and Jan (David) Talbott of Mount Vernon, 3 granddaughters Andrea (Kevin) Feltman, Abby (Ben) Beever and Laura Brennstuhl; 2 sisters Elsie Jones of Mogadore, Ohio and Blanche Wheeler of Granville, Ohio and a brother Dick (Eloise) Hampton of Diamond, Ohio.

Her husband Robert Welsh, an infant son Randy Welsh, 7 sisters Claudia Spurlin, Opal Hunter, Edna Edwards, Madge Hunter, Ina Brown, Lela Smithhisler and Fanny Van Arsdale and 2 brothers Bill Hampton and Tom Hampton preceded her in death.

A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held on Saturday at 11 AM at the Amity United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. David Baker officiating and burial will follow in Amity Cemetery. Visiting hours will be at the church one hour prior to the service.
