Eugene “Gene” Morasco, 80, of Galion, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010 at home.
Born Sept. 1, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of the late Eugene Morasco and Sophia Terczak Morasco. He married Janet Rinke Morasco on July 18, 1951 and she survives.
Gene has lived an active life. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Galion and ran his own business, RAM Circuits, from his home producing printed circuit boards. He was very involved in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts with his sons. His involvement with all of his children while they were in school included prize winning ideas and a lot of hands-on help with science fair projects. His experience at Chrysler Missile enabled him to design and build a small scale missile for his children to play in.
He worked for his father in the Electronic surplus business and then was employed at Chrysler Missile from 1955 to 1960. He then moved his family to Galion and worked at the former North Electric as an Industrial Engineer from 1960 to 1980. While working at North Electric he also worked at ComTrol, manufacturing electronic wiring harnesses and printed circuit boards. After leaving ITT North Electric he worked at GlobalTron until his retirement.
After his retirement he initiated, researched and compiled information on the Morasco and Rinke family trees. He also developed an interest in drawing.
His hobbies and activities have included Amateur Ham Radio building and operation, square dancing, cooking, photography, reading and working crossword puzzles. He especially enjoyed reading historical information about World War II and being a member of the Toastmaster’s Club.
He is survived by five children, Regina Philip Metzger of Rockford, Ill., Michael “Mic” Morasco of Yuma, Ariz., Christopher Terrie Morasco of Alpine, Wyo., Matthew Morasco of Galion and Vincent Morasco and his companion, Mary McCammon of Galion; eight grandchildren, Jason Kochheiser and Olivia, Seanna, Nicole, Matthew, Cara, Sara and Thomas Morasco and three great-grandchildren, Ian Kochheiser, Seth Towns and Rylynn Myers.
He was preceded in death by one son, Roger Morasco.
A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Galion with Rev. Michael Schelling officiating. Gene’s family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m. Saturday after the Mass, at St. Joseph Parish School Cafeteria.
