Eugene L. Morton, 76, of 9668 Ketterman Drive, Galion, died Wednesday, July 26, 2006 at Galion Community Hospital after an extended illness.

Born Feb. 8, 1930 in Caledonia, he was the son of the late Thomas Andrew Morton and Florence Fay Dickin Morton. He married Almira R. Payne Morton on December 23, 1978 who survives. He was first married to Dorothy Sue Beaver Morton on Dec. 31, 1966. She preceded him in death on June 4, 1978.

He was a graduate of Iberia High School in 1949. He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in Germany. He was a longtime member of the Galion First Church of the Nazarene, a member of the American Legion Donald Wilson Post 758 in Iberia for 54 years and the Crawford County Coon Hunters Club where he has been treasurer since 1965. He was a letter carrier for the Galion Post Office for 35 years.

Surviving are four step children who considered him their Dad, Jeffrey Keirns of Galion; James Dye of Mansfield; Diane and Donald Sheffer of Pataskala and John and Leslie Dye of Galion; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and two sisters and one brother-in-law, Evelyn Ploss of Galion and Maxine and Joe Gregory of Galion.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Jill Morton; one step daughter, Darlene Brown and one sister, Anna Mae Sipe.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 28, 2006 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 29, 2006 at Galion First Church of the Nazarene with Dr. Rick McCartney and Pastor Andy Grimes officiating. Burial will be in Iberia Cemetery.

Military graveside services will be conducted by the Iberia American Legion and the United States Army.
