Eugene L. Jack

Eugene L. “Gene” Jack, 83, of Galion, died Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at Galion Community Hospital, of complications following hip surgery.
Born September 18, 1920 in Shelby, he was the son of the late George Jack and Stella Weaver Jack. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Elizabeth “Mimi” Smith Jack.
He graduated from Galion High School in 1939 and served with the U.S. Navy during World War II at Pearl Harbor after the Japanese attack. He began his employment at Schill Manufacturing in Crestline and later at Peabody-Galion. He worked for 27 years at Perfection-Cobey Co. in Galion, first in Sales and Service traveling for the firm and then in the shop as a foreman.
He is a long time member of Community Christian Church and American Legion Scarbrough Post No. 243, in Galion. He is a lifetime member of Galion Elk’s Lodge No. 1191. He was an avid golfer and loved to fish and travel. He enjoyed meeting his fellow World War II buddies each morning for coffee at McDonald’s Restaurant in Galion.
In his final days he was very thankful to Dr. Ted Ebner and Dr. Steve Focht for their great care and to Dr. Larry Leone for allowing him to pass to his next life with peace and dignity.
Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Sharon Jack and Don DeLauter, of Ballwin, Mo.; his step-daughter and her husband, Sandi and Ric Roston, of Galion; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Joe and Patricia Jack, of Boca Raton, Fla. and William Jack, of Findlay and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Eileen Stevens and Dorothy Amick.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 16, 2004 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 17, with Dr. Daniel A. Turner, officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery with military graveside services conducted by Galion/Crestline Area Veterans organizations.
