Eugene Conroe “Gene” Blackburn, age 79 of Palm Harbor, FL, formerly of Delaware passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at the home of his son in Houston, Texas.

He was born on November 11, 1925 in Westbranch, Iowa. His was born to the late Willard and Mary (Conroe) Blackburn, who operated the former Blackburn’s Clothing Store in Delaware for over 30 years. Gene was a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University, where his met his wife of 52 years: Marilyn (Caldwell) Blackburn, she preceded him in death in 2000.

While at Ohio Wesleyan University, he was a member of the Phi Delta Fraternity and the track team. A US Navy veteran, he retired from the R. R. Street Company in chemical sales. He was a jack of all trades and fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes.

Survived by Son: Douglas Blackburn of Houston, TX, Daughters: Debbie McGrory of Columbus and Susie Stephens of Cullowee, N.C., Grandsons: Justin and Christopher Stephens, and Sister: Ginny Ingle of Columbus.

He was also preceded in death by a Brother: Paul Blackburn.

Friends may call Friday, June 17th at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St., (SR 36), Delaware, from 10 until 11:00 a.m. where a service celebrating the life of Gene Blackburn will follow at 11:00 a.m.

A Memorial Picnic will be given by his children at the family cottage, 8801 E. Wesley Lane, N. Webster, Indiana on June 18th from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The family may be contacted at 828-293-5822 for further details.
