Ethel Estela “Toppie” Ferriman Zimmerman

October 14, 1924 ‒ June 26, 2018

Marion, Ohio

Ethel Estela “Toppie” (Ferriman) Zimmerman, age 93, of Marion, passed away on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

On October 14, 1924, Toppie was born in Southern Ohio, one of thirteen children of the late William Theodore and Emmalene Margaret (Gay) Ferriman.  She graduated from Marion Harding High School.

Shortly following graduation, Toppie married the love of her life, Fred J. Zimmerman, on November 18, 1945.  They shared fifty eight years of marriage, and he preceded her in death on February 15, 2004.  And though he left before her, not a day went by that she didn’t still love him.

A loving homemaker, Toppie took pride in spoiling Fred and her family.

Toppie leaves behind 3 brothers, 4 sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Including her husband and parents, Toppie was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

Her family will greet friends from 1 – 2 p.m. on Friday, June 29, 2018, at the Snyder Funeral Homes, GUNDER/HALL Chapel, 347 W. Center St., Marion.  A brief service will be held at the funeral home, followed by graveside services in Chapel Heights Memory Gardens, where her great nephew, Stephen Bigler, will say a few words.

Memorial contributions may be made to OhioHealth / Marion General Hospital Hospice, 278 Barks Rd. W., Marion, OH 43302.

Her family would like to extend a heartfelt “thank you” to Mildred “Mickey” and Stephen for helping care for her and brightening her final years.

  • Thank you Aunt Toppie for showing me that you can always love and help someone even when you have no money. Thank you for showing me that you don’t need a fancy degree or a high quality job all you need is to be genuinely happy. Thank you so much for sticking by me and molding me into a quality adult from age 11 when I started helping you guys out full-time. Thank you so much for every single thing you have ever done for me. Most importantly thank you for showing me how to be myself. I can never repay you. I’m happy you’re no longer in pain and I will miss you with every bone in my body. I’m going to be strong for Aunt Mick and I will continue to help Mick with everything she needs help with. You were amazing Aunt Toppie. Thank you so much for everything. I love you. Rest In Peace.
