Esther Irene Fowler Gale, 88, of Woodside Village Care Center and formerly of Ashley died Thursday January 1, 2009 at The Ohio State University Medical Center.

She was born on April 23, 1920 in Kenna, West Virginia the daughter of the late James Owen and Rosy B. (Claten) Parson.

Esther married Lawrence Fowler on April 25, 1936. She later married Samuel Gale on December 26, 1963. They have both preceded her in death.

Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days. (Ecclesiastes 11:1)

A woman of great faith, Esther became a Christian in 1970. As a younger woman she would attend various local churches with a friend

She was very giving and kind in nature and was always there for those in need; forever trying to feed everyone.

Never a wasteful woman, Esther canned all sorts of fruits and vegetables. If it could not be eaten, she would have it canned. Friends and family were always bringing her various produce.

She was also blessed with a wonderful singing voice and had the unique ability to harmonize. She enjoyed when the family would visit her at the nursing home and they would sing Amazing Grace.

She will be missed by her children, Charles Fowler of Mount Gilead, Nina Lewis of Mount Gilead, Una Tucker of Prospect, William Fowler of Delaware, Arthur Fowler of Hillsdale, Michigan, and Twilla Jackson of Delaware; 21 Grandchildren; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; two sisters Edith I. Lozier Ringler of Shinnston, West Virginia and Marie Heath of Apache Junction, Arizona.

In addition to her parents and husbands she was preceded in death by her son James L. Fowler; daughters Sandra Thomas and Frances Jackson; brothers Roamie, Russell, Frank, Benny, and Granville; sisters Martha Fowler Hughes, Susan Putney, and Josie Hughes.

Friends may call on the family on Monday January 5, 2009 from 4-7 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home, 76 South Main Street, Mount Gilead. Pastor Mark Schaeufele will conduct services there on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Bryn Zion Cemetery.
