Ernie R. Adkins, age 59, of Marengo died unexpectedly Tuesday June 17, 2008 in Saint Ignace, MI.

He was born on March 3, 1949 in Marengo to the late Emmett Sr. and Ina (Phelps) Adkins. Graduate of Highland High School Class of 1967, US Army Vietnam Veteran and he attended Christ the King Community Church in Fredericktown. Ernie was a machinist for Rolls-Royce in Mt. Vernon. Member of the VFW and the National Wild Turkey Federation.

Ernie was a hardworker, a great provider for his family and a man’s man, a man of few words but what he said spoke volumes.. He enjoyed all facets of the outdoors, fishing at Lake Erie or in a farm pond catching bass, walleye and perch. Hunting for deer, turkey or squirrel and trapping, which was his greatest accomplishment.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years: Kim G. (Dowler) Adkins and they were married February 19, 1977; sons: Ernie II and Brian both of Columbus; 13 Brothers & Sisters: Ruth Pukansky, Emmett Jr. (Bet), Betty Stephens, Gene (Janet), Dorothy Coleman, Enoch (Linda), Eloise (Chuck) Freeman all of Marengo, Ellet (Betty) of Cardington, Laura (Floyd) Mailey, Mary (Jerry) Fouts of Delaware, Joney (Cindy) of Chesterville, Joyce (Dick) Wertz, and Jimmy (Sharon) of Marengo, Brother-in-law: Dick Addison of New Carlisle, Sister-in-law: Rose of Cardington, Mother and Father-in-law: Robert and Mildred Dowler of Upper Sandusky, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by Sister: Hester Addison and Brother: Franklin.

Friends may call Sunday 2-5 p.m. at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR 3 at 61, Sunbury where services will be held Monday 2 p.m. with Dr. Lucian Baker officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Marengo Cemetery.
