Erma O. Myers

July 03, 1908 ‒ November 06, 2007

Mount Gilead, Ohio

Erma Myers, age 99, of Grant Street in Mount Gilead, went home to be with the Lord early on Tuesday morning, November 6, 2007, at the Sunbridge Care Center in Marion.

She was born on July 3, 1908, in the Salem community of Marion County, the daughter of the late Jerome and Mary Martin Tittlebaugh. Erma graduated from Edison High School in the Class of 1926 and earned her living doing housework before she was married.

On November 29, 1931, Erma married her loving husband of over 60 years, Orrie A. Myers, at her parents’ home. In 1950, they purchased a farm in between Edison and Denmark where they were one of the first to discover oil. In 1962, they moved to Grant Street and their son Donald continued the operation of the family farm.

A lifelong member of the Marion Salem United Methodist Church, Erma was very active in the church and participated in many of their events and activities. Also, she was a member of the United Methodist Women’s Church Group, the Home-Makers Study Club, and she was a Bluebell Twig volunteer at the Morrow County Hospital.

With a love for her friends, Erma looked forward to her daily visits to the Seniors on Center in Mount Gilead, where she enjoyed the food, fellowship, afternoon activities and programs.

A wonderful homemaker, Erma continued to cook two meals a week for her son, Don, until just recently. He will always have special place in his heart for all the time they spent together and for her spaghetti with macaroni noodles.

At home, Erma enjoyed watching her flowers bloom, the birds stopping to feed at her many feeders, and her neighbors who often checked in on her.

Her hobbies include making ceramics and crafts, and collecting oil lamps, and salt and pepper shakers.

She will be missed by her son, Donald Myers of Edison; two grandsons: Randy (Donna) Myers and Jonathon (Angie) Myers and their daughter, Katalina; two step great-grandchildren: Shane and Stacey Smith; and one step great-great grandson: Chance Smith.

Including her parents and husband, Erma was preceded in death by her son, Harold Myers; and two grandsons: Gerry and Doug Myers.

Her family will greet friends on Thursday from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home, 76 S. Main St., Mount Gilead. A celebration of life service will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Marion Salem United Methodist Church, with Rev. Jared Williams and Rev. James VanMeter officiating. Burial will follow in the Marion Salem Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made the Marion Salem United Methodist Church, 1640 Salem Rd., Caledonia, Ohio 43314, or to the Seniors on Center, 41 W. Center St., Mount Gilead, Ohio 43338.
