Erma Jean Jones, age 73, of Mount Vernon died Thursday August 18, 2005 at the Country Club Retirement Center in Mount Vernon following a courageous battle with ALS. Erma was born August 14, 1932 in Richland County to Frank and Ethel (Edwards) Davis. She spent most of her lifetime in Knox County, graduating from Amity High School in 1950.

Erma had been a member of the Mulberry Street United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon for over 50 years. She had worked for the Knox County Board of Elections as a poll worker and a presiding judge. She was a member of the Gambier Pythian Sisters, Knox Chapter #236 Order of Eastern Star, Ladies of the White Shrine, Mary’s Happy Clowns and the Country Club Retirement Center “Red Hat Society”.

Surviving are her daughters Debra L. (Kenneth) Schwab of Middletown, and Gwendolyn S. (Jim) Poland of Mount Vernon; her sons Robert T. (Martha) Jones and Brent R. Jones both of Mount Vernon; six grandchildren Allison Schwab, Lindsay Schwab, Vinson (Stephanie) Poland, LaKeshia Jones, Quentin Jones, and Chelsea Jones; a great granddaughter Ryann Poland; her brother Sam Davis of Mount Vernon; her sister Betty (Richard) Johnson of Mount Vernon and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years Robert L. Jones on April 24, 1997; her sister Evelyn “Dollie” Alberts, and five brothers Virgil Davis, Ellis Davis, George Davis, Donald Davis and Dale Davis.

Friends may call Monday from 6 to 8 PM at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A funeral service celebrating the life of Erma J. Jones will be Tuesday at 11 AM at the Mulberry Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Rodney Buchanan officiating. Burial will follow at Mound View Cemetery.
