Elzie Ramey, age 82, of Ashley died Friday evening, May 20, 2005 at St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville.
He was born in Richmond Dale, Ohio on November 2, 1922 to the late Roba F. and Carrie (Lemaster) Ramey. A US Army WW II veteran, he served in the Los Alamos Valley during the development of the atomic bomb. Elzie moved to the Ashley area in 1953 from Flat Gap, Kentucky. He worked for over 30 years for Ranco Controls as a press operator and stockman, retiring in 1986.
Pentecostal in faith, he enjoyed the outdoors, ground hog hunting, farming, and vegetable gardening, especially tomato’s and beans. Known as a workaholic, he loved to “tinker”, and his family was his inspiration.
He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 56 years: Beatrice “Bobbie” (Bunyard) Ramey, whom he married on April 17, 1949 in Paintsville, KY, Sons: Rick L. (Jodi), Shellie (Tom), Bobbie Lou (David), Joshua (Terrie), Jeremy, Crystal, Robyn (Luther), Lyn (Shane), Shawn, Kim, Charles Jr., Michelle (Bruce), Great-grandchildren: Sara, Ashlee, Austin, Luke, Amber, Ashton, Madelyn, Willie, Harley, Tabitha, Nikki, Nathan, and Cheynea, Great-Great Grandson: Bobby, Brothers: Frank (Mary) Ramey of Florida, Elwood (Jewel) Ramey of Flat Gap, KY, John Fred (Judy) Ramey of Flat Gap, KY, Sisters: Neva Mae Sparks of Flat Gap, KY.
Preceded in death by Son: Larry Ramey on March 2, 2003, Grandson: Ricky G. Ramey on March 2, 1998, Great-granddaughter: Faith Stephens, Brothers: Elbie & Mayburn Ramey, and Sister: Avonelle Estep.
Friends may call Monday from 4-8 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St. (SR 36), Delaware, where a service celebrating the life of Elzie Ramey will be held Tuesday 1:00 p.m., Pastor Chuck Roush officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Delaware, with military honors provided by the Delaware County Veterans Assoc.
