Elvie Clyde Sherman

Elvie Clyde Sherman, 83, of Cardington passed away Thursday evening, January 7, 2021 at the Marion General Hospital.
He was born December 10, 1937 in Delaware County to the late John Henry Sherman and Ruth Isabelle (Wigton) Sherman and grew up in the Ashley and Westfield area. He attended school in Ashley and graduated from Elm Valley High School in 1957. On September 3, 1960, Elvie married the love of his life Grace Irene Powell. Together they shared 60 years of marriage and raised 3 lovely children.
Elvie and Grace lived in the Ashley area for 10 years before purchasing a farm on State Route 42 in Cardington. Elvie raised beef cattle and crops while continuing to work for Eaton Corporation in Marion for 30 years retiring at the age of 62. An outdoor person, he loved to hunt, fish and attend Blue Grass Music Festivals.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Grace Sherman; son, Donald (Jenny) Sherman; daughter, Nancy Sherman; granddaughter, Amanda Sherman; great grandson, Joseph Dylan; sisters-in-law, Janice Sherman and Dorothy Starkey; brother-in-law, Cliff (Carol) Powell Jr.
In addition to his parents, Elvie was preceded in death by his daughter Donna Kay Sherman, stepfather Victor, brother Clarence Sherman, sister Grace Wentz, sister-in-law Virginia Herriott and brother-in-law Roy Powell.

Private graveside services will be held at Ashley Union Cemetery with Rev. John Powers officiating.
