Elva Eugene “Gene” Castle, age 70, of Edison, passed away Sunday morning, October 18, 2015, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

On September 10, 1945, Gene was born in Urbana, OH, the son of the late Elva Castle and Vertie (Clifton) Music Castle.

A Vietnam Veteran, Gene proudly served his country in the United States Marines.

Over the years Gene worked for General Electric and the Village of Edison Street Dept. He served as the Fire Chief for the Village of Edison Volunteer Fire Department until 2003. He was also one of the founding members of the Moose Lodge in Morrow County and enjoyed old cars.

Gene is survived by two sons: Dave Whitt and Chet (Kelli) Shuster; two daughters, Carla (Art) Thompson and Angie Roberts; grandchildren: Cassy, Caitlyn, and seven other grandchildren; six brothers: Steve (Lula), Chris (Kelly), Paul, Mike, Steve, and Keith Castle; two sisters: Wanda (Sonny) McClasky, Sue Jones; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2015, at the Edison Enterprise Baptist Church, 3055 State Route 95 W., Edison, OH 43320, with Pastor Ed Colegrove officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Active Duty U.S. Marines, VFW Post 8054 and AmVets Post 87.

    I first met Gene and his family when my family moved to Edison when I was 13
    He was always so kind to me and everyone around he will be sadly missed

  • So sorry to hear the news of Genes passing. I had the privilege of working with him for the better of Morrow County when he was Edison Fire Chief and I was 911 Supervisor. He was a caring man and wanted the best for his community and county. Morrow County lost another great one! Praying for your family at this time.
