Elsie Mae Sherman, age 79 of Delaware passed away Tuesday evening at Grady Memorial Hospital. She was born December 7, 1927 in Tazewell Co., Virginia to Roland and Rosa (nee Godbey) Baldwin. A resident since 1972, she was a devoted homemaker and enjoyed the Salvation Army Women’s Club, playing cards – she was unbeatable at rummy – reading, listening to music – her favorite was gospel – and writing and reading poetry. She was baptized into the Assemblies of God Church and maintained her Christian faith throughout her life. She is survived by her son Casey (Kay) Johnson of Chesterfield, VA; daughter Gayle (Eppa) Wimbish of Aylett, VA; four brothers Rev. Joe (Mae) Baldwin of Delaware, Don (Pat) Baldwin of Ashley, Jack (good friend Marilee Dressler) Baldwin of Hilliard, and Willis (Sharon) Baldwin of Marion; two sisters Ellen Hildreth of Marengo and Clara (Homer) Bronson of Marion; a brother-in-law Cecil Compton of Fredericktown; several nieces and nephews; and all her friends at Londontowne Apartments. She was preceded in death by four sisters Matilda, Thelma and Sally Baldwin, and Virgie Compton; two brothers Elmer and Roland Baldwin. Friends will be received at the Rodman Neeper Funeral Home, Bennett Brown Ashley Chapel, 307 E. High St., Ashley this evening (April 12th) from 5:00 – 8:00 PM where services will be held Friday, March 13th at 11:00 AM with Deacons Franklin Moore and Gerald Singleton of the Second Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Bloomfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Delaware Chapter of The American Red Cross, 5 W. Winter St., Delaware, OH 43015. Additional memorial service will be held Saturday, April 14th at Noon in the 4th floor community room of Schollhouse, 300 Chelsea St., Delaware, Ohio. Please come and be prepared to share a memory.
