Elsie Mae Gantt, age 81 a former resident of Mount Vernon, died January 4, 2003 at St. Josephs Hospital in Tucson, Arizona after a brief illness. Elsie was born July 26, 1921 in Sunbury to Cecil Clare and Roxzella Vandell (Scott) Knoderer and had spent her lifetime in central Ohio before moving to Tucson four years ago to live with her daughter.

Elsie had worked for the U S Trotting Asso. For 30 years retiring in 1990. She was a former member of the Centerburg Garden Club and the Women of the Moose in Mount Vernon. She enjoyed ceramics, sewing, oil painting, was an avid reader and loved her dogs and cats.

Surviving are 2 daughters Dorothy Frances (Larry) Welch of Tucson, and Carma Lee (John) Kemmer of Fredericktown; 6 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; her brother Anson Scott (Janet Kilbury) Knoderer of Oran Missouri and her sister Florence Elizabeth (Donald) Conant of Delaware.

Private graveside services will be at Burnside Cemetery south of Galena.

The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon is in charge of arrangements.
