Eloise Higgins, 95, of Gilead Township passed away on Friday night, October 16, 2009 at the family home.
She was born February 20, 1914 in Cairo, Ritchie County, West Virginia, to the late King and Leila Jane Pratt Cantwell.
Eloise was active in Morrow County 4H Dairy Club, Orchid Twig of the Morrow County Hospital, and the neighborhood Blue Jay Club, and was known for her love of quilting.
On September 4, 1932 she married Floyd Higgins who preceded her in death on September 30, 1988. They were long time farmers in Marion and Morrow Counties and had been married for 56 years.
She is survived by three sons, Donald of Mount Gilead, Jerry (Marcia) of Mount Gilead and Floyd Thomas (Deborah) of Cardington; two daughters, Ruth Ann (Ken) Mast of Galion and Barbara (Glen) Rhoads of Davenport, Florida; one sister, Mildred (Bill) Pangle of Newark; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and by a special friend and caretaker, Janet Parker.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, three brothers, and five sisters.
A dialysis patient for over six years, Eloise was especially proud that she had never missed a single treatment on her three times per week schedule.
Rev. Jan Baker Belcher will conduct services on Tuesday October 20, 2009 at the Snyder Funeral Home, 76 South Main Street, Mount Gilead, at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow in Bryn Zion Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service.
