Elizabeth “Jane” Van Horn Plogher, age 71, of Chesterville, died Monday afternoon, April 18, 2016, at the Morrow Manor Nursing Home.

Jane was born on October 1, 1944, to the late Herman (Jim) and Frances (Carpenter) Van Horn, in Galion, OH. She attended Chesterville Schools all 12 years, and graduated in the class of 1962 from Highland High School after the consolidation of schools.

On June 23, 1963, Jane married the love of her life, James “Jim” Plogher. Together they shared 52 wonderful years of marriage.

For many years, Jane worked in various restaurants where she brought many smiles to those she served. Towards the end of her working days, Jane enjoyed working at Bed, Bath, and Beyond.

Jane enjoyed cooking and baking. Some of her specialties included: brown apple pies, snickerdoodles, chocolate cake, and potato salad. Every Christmas Jane took great joy in baking a variety of cookies to share with her neighbors. She also enjoyed playing scrabble and listening to her Gospel favorites such as the Gaither’s. Jane especially loved watching her family in various sports activities. She could often be found at the ball parks cheering on the little league teams she knew. Each year, around Jane and Jane’s daughters’ birthdays, they girls had a “Girls Day” which included shopping and eating out together. Her loving and caring personality will surely be missed be her family.

Left to cherish her memory includes Husband, Jim; children: Jason (Adrienne) Plogher of Westerville, Julie (Mike Stover) Plogher of Akron, and Jennifer (Daniell) Roundtree of Columbus; grandchildren: Trenton, Chase, Keely, and Kara; sister, Patricia (Eddie) Carpenter of Bellville; sisters-in-law: Donna Van Horn of Bellville, Sherri Van Horn of Mount Gilead, Lil Van Horn of Cardington, and Sue (Dave) Schmidt of Florida; brothers-in-law: Wray (Mavis) Plogher of Kearney, MO, and Thomas (Donna) Plogher of Mount Gilead; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers: Kenneth, Edward (Jim), John, Gene, and Tom Van Horn.

Her family will greet friends from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday, April 21, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel. (67 N. Main St., Mt. Gilead, OH 43338). A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 22, 2016, at 11 AM, with James Thompson officiating, in Maple Grove Cemetery.

  • Jim and family, I am so sorry for the loss of Jane. She and I had some wonderful times. We always enjoyed our morning coffee and our trips to Cincinnati, Ohio to see the Cincinnati Reds play. She was a great friend and a beautiful person. I know she loved all of you so much and she will sadly be missed by all of us. Prayers and love to all of you.
