Eleanor “Joan” Esper, age 80 of Lewis Center passed away, Wednesday, March 02, 2011 surrounded by her family at Laurels of Worthington.

She was born on May 10, 1930 in Zanesville to the late Clarence and Dorothy (Penrod) Goelz. For the majority of her working years, she worked as a secretary in the insurance field and most recently worked in the meat dept. of the Delaware Kroger’s on RT 23. She also volunteered for The Council for Older Adults.

Always the mother, she was a wonderful grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed reading contemporary novels, working crossword puzzles and flower gardening, as well as knitting and crocheting. Her homemade noodles and award winning cherry pie will long be remembered.

She is survived by daughters: Kristy (Mike) Butterworth of Reynoldsburg, Joyce Hodges (Bob Chapman) of Columbus, Sheree (Don) Howard of Lewis Center, 5 Grandchildren: Phillip, Melissa Butterworth, Bethany (Kyle) Mills, Dan and Collin Howard, 3 Great-grandchildren: Zachary, Kayley, and Ashtyn.

Also preceded in death by husband: John, Grandson: Donnie Howard , Brothers: Robert, William, and James Goelz, as well as her Sister Evelyn Bonifant.

Friends may call Friday 4:00 -7:30 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St., Delaware, where services celebrating her life will follow 7:30 p.m. Graveside services will be held Saturday 10:00 a.m., in Oak Grove Cemetery.
