Elaine Arms, age 88, of Marion, passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at the Kingston Residence.
She was born in Hills, Minnesota, on July 3, 1919, the daughter of the late Tollef and Clara Qualley Thompson. After earning her teaching certificate, Elaine taught in a one room school house in South Dakota.
On December 9, 1945, Elaine married her loving husband, Mike Arms, in South Dakota. They shared their golden anniversary shortly before he passed away on March 9, 1996.
“A good Christian woman,” Elaine was a faithful member of the Crosswood United Methodist Church (Calvary UM) where she loved to sing in the choir. She was a hospital volunteer at the Med Center Hospital in Marion.
Always ready and willing to travel “with anyone,” Elaine loved new adventures. She enjoyed playing cards, her favorites being bridge, pinochle, and Skip-Bo.
A loving and devoted mother, Elaine will be remembered for her cheerfulness and her patience. Her friends and family will miss her dearly.
Left to cherish her memory include her three sons: Gary (Trish) Arms of Brook Park, Ohio, Rich Arms of Marion, and Craig (Chris) Arms of Schoolcraft, Michigan; one daughter: Karla (Rick) Houk of Marion; special daughter-in-law: Barb Arms of Marion; and eight grandchildren: Gary Arms, Ryan (Carrie) Houk, Justin Arms, Les Arms, Eric Arms, Anthony Arms, Brad Arms, and Angela Arms.
The family will greet friends on Thursday, August 2, from 10 – 11 a.m. at the Crosswood Ministry Center, 1551 Richland Rd., Marion, where memorial services will follow immediately at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Steven Rath officiating.
