Eileen “Maynard” Sears

Eileen “Maynard” Sears, age 73 of Sparta passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at Bennington Glen in Marengo.

Born on September 14, 1936 in Fulton, she was a graduate of Highland High School in 1954. Eileen was a veteran of the US Marine Corps. She received a culinary degree from The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. For thirty years Eileen served as the culinary food instructor for the inmates and staff of both the Federal Prison Camp in Duluth, MN and the Lebanon Correctional Institute in Ohio.

A woman of deep faith, she was a longtime member of the Sparta Christian Advent Church. She loved entertaining and cooking for family and friends, her fried chicken will long be remembered.

With her warm smile and caring personality, she could light up any room. She enjoyed visiting Amish country and finding garage sale treasures with her mother. Elieen kept her family close and was a grandmother to many more than her own.

She is survived by daughter Kelly Simms (Brian Ballard) of Sparta, mother Grace (Burson) Stinehelfer, Grandchildren: Cody, Tori (Michael), Blake, Great-grandchildren: Haven and Aven, dear friend Brenda (Rich) Denman, Brothers-in-law and Sisters-in-law: Bob (Deb) Sears of Marengo, David Sears of Howard, Susie (Phil) Roush of Marysville, Clyde (Sandra) Sears of Centerburg, and Dennis (Susan) Sears of New Albany,Cousins: Ted and Diane Saunders, Howard and Jeanette Saunders, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Eileen was preceded in death by her infant son: Carroll A. Sears Jr. father: Gerald F. “Bus” Stinehelfer in 1987, brothers: William “Bill” Springer in 1997 and Gerald F. “Sonny” Stinehelfer in 2005, former husband and dear friend: Carroll A. Sears in 2001.

Friends may call Friday 3 – 7 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, (SR 229) in Marengo, where services will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Rob Musick officiating, graveside services will be held Saturday 11:00 a.m. in Bloomfield Cemetery.
